When you are a Christian, the most important thing in your life will be your ability to please God. A life of righteousness will become your ultimate goal. The Lord is very specific in the Bible that this should be the goal of every single Christian.
From the very beginning God asks for your life, and tells you that it belongs to him. "And surely your blood, the blood of your lives, will I require; At the hand of every beast will I require it. And at the hand of man of every man's brother, will I require the life of man."
God calls for obedience of all of his children, it is one of the things everyone should be taught to do, "Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things thine eyes saw, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but make them known unto thy children and thy children's children." Deuteronomy 4:9
You should be thankful to God always. "Jehovah is ready to save me: Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments. All the days of our life in the house of Jehovah." Isaiah 38:20
You should not be anxious about things that could possibly happen to you, you should put all your trust in God and not worry about worldly things. "Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food and the body than the raiment?" Matthew 6:25
You should spend your entire life doing whatever God says to do, the Bible tells you everything that he wants from you and you should be doing that. "For whosoever would save his life shall lose it and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it." Matthew 16:25
You should try hard not to commit any sins and to avoid temptation.
"And if thy hand or thy foot causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: it is good for thee to enter into life maimed or halt, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into the eternal fire." Matthew 18:8
"And if thine eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from thee; it is good for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire." Matthew 18:9
You must also put your faith in God, and his Son, Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of the people, and through your faith you will gain eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gve his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
"He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him." John 4:14
"For as the Father raiseth the dead and giveth them life, even so the Son also giveth life to whom he will." John 5:21
