The way that people communicate with each other is vital to human existence. Everybody wants to feel heard and to hear others correctly. Communicating is a process that includes listening to and sending out verbal and nonverbal communication. The problem that many people have is the inability to listen very well, which means that everybody has to attempt to combat that within their everyday communications. One of the major ways to do this is to use simple and plain English in everyday conversations.
People are much less likely to listen to another person if that person uses convoluted wording and unnecessarily large words. This is a turn-off to many people who may not be able to understand those words. If that person really wants to get their point across, then that person should use simple language and make sure that the point that they're making is clear. The simpler the language that is used, the more likely that everybody will understand what is being said and it will be much less stressful for everybody involved.
Stress is a big factor in communication. It can be difficult for both sides to get their own points across and to understand the other side. Complicated words thrown into the mix just cause more stress. Being calm and concise is the best way to simplify the process and increase the odds that good communication is going to occur. When there is another problem like complex language added to the already difficult process of communication, it becomes less and less likely that anything will be accomplished.
People respect those who speak in plain language. It can seem that people are trying to hide something when they speak in complex language and use large words to hide the real meaning of their words. It seems less like people are speaking down to one another when they use regular language and don't try to talk like a college professor. This makes the message that they are sending out to another party much clearer and it gains the respect of the person that they are talking to.
Using plain English is the best way to get results in everyday communication. People will gain the respect that they want and get their messages across. Plain language makes the exact message clearer and it simplifies the already complex process of communication. Using plain language every day is the best way to communicate.
