Great ways to show employee appreciation

It is important to show your employees that you appreciate them. An appreciated employee is more likely to show a good work ethic, will be happy in their jobs and will be more likely to help you out if you require it which all leads to a more successful business for yourself. If staff feels appreciated then the morale of the environment will go up and this can only have positive effects upon the business.

Taking time to appreciate your staff is important. If staff feel as though they are not appreciated they can move on from their roles and decide to look elsewhere or they can put in minimal effort into their workloads. Appreciating staff doesn't have to take up extra time in your day which could have a negative impact upon work but can actually be very simple and straight forward to do.

* Praise
Some managers may find it difficult to praise their staff as they may worry that it will cause the staff member to become big headed or above their station or they may be concerned that it will show themselves to be somewhat weak, however, it actually has far more positive effects than negative.

If you thank your staff for positive work they have carried out and show that you're pleased with what they have done they are more likely to want to strive to please you again. They will feel as though you have recognised what they have put in to their jobs and so will be more willing to put more effort in again which has a positive result upon your business.

* Share out profits.
If your staff member has enabled you to make a big sale or drum up more business then reward your staff with a share in that profit instead of just ploughing it back into the business or taking it for yourself. A staff member will be delighted to receive some money or shares as a result of their hard work and it will encourage them to work even harder so that they can be rewarded again. It will also increase a competitive work ethic in your business which will inspire others to strive too.

* Socialise
You may be the boss and you may like to separate yourself from your employees but it is important to spend some time with your staff members outside of the working environment so that your staff can feel as though you value you them as people not just employees. If you are not comfortable with socialising with your employees then you can instead just help to organise events for them to socialise amongst themselves.

Organising a Christmas party, an evening out having a meal, a team building adventure day or some other way of socialising away from the office can have a very positive impact upon your team which will show them that you appreciate what they do.

* Understand
It is important as a manager that you have a level of understanding with your staff. This can be displayed in several ways. There will be times that a staff member will turn up late or may need to make a personal call during their working hours and it can be very easy and almost instinct-like to chastise them for this, however, take the time to show some concern. Ask your staff if there is a problem and whether there is anything they require from you as their boss to be able to help rectify the issue.

Showing your staff that you understand and acknowledge the fact they have personal lives that sometimes will impact upon their workload will make them feel appreciated and they will be more willing to work harder and please you as a way of rewarding you for being so compassionate.

It does not take a great deal of effort to show your employees that they are appreciated but the rewards for doing so can be extremely beneficial and have great impact upon your business.
