Just Kids: Pictures, Poems and Other Silly Animal Stuff Just for Kids was just that and much, much more! It was written by Bonnie Louise Kuchler and starting from the first page and continuing on every page thereafter, an important life lesson was taught through a picture and supported by a poem or an inspirational thought along with neat real life facts about the animals and their environments.
In the first lesson, the children are shown a picture of a baby Harp Seal playing in snow and are told through a whimsical poem that
"Snowflakes and fingerprints-
You'll always find-Each one is different,
one of a kind.
And just like a snowflake
This, too, is true,
No one else is exactly like you!"
Each picture is of young animals, each in their own environment; some by themselves, some with their parents, and even some with their friends. The pictures are remarkable and the poetry is a perfect fit. I chose this book to review because the pictures tell a story of real life that the kids can relate to as they are afforded the opportunities compare their visual images of wild animals to the ones actually in the wild. The poetry and facts are well-rounded aids that reinforce the various life lessons that the pictures teach the children, which the child and parent will realize from the very first page.
This book is about kids of all shapes and sizes from all parts of the world and will provide every child that opens it up the opportunity to smile upon seeing the treasures inside as they see their wild life counterparts in their own world.
