Home schooling offers a number of benefits and opportunities not available in public schools. Some parents take advantage of this opportunity and chose to home school their children. They may make this choice for a number of reasons. Those who would like to incorporate religion into the education of their child often home school. Some parents may want their child to go to a private school or academy, but the tuition is entirely too expensive. Students with learning disabilities may need some extra individual attention that is only able to be provided in an environment without distractions. Parents may even desire a closer, more family-oriented environment for their child. It also seems reasonable to conclude that many parents have lost faith in the public school system. Whatever the reason, it is apparent the number of home schooled children is increasing.
Upon a parent choosing to home school their child, they must take into consideration the specific laws regarding home schooling in their state. It is difficult to explain the exact process in which you establish yourself in control of the education of your child because the laws are not very consistent throughout every state. The process usually involves filing a notice of intent, then once you start to school your child, you are required to send quarterly reports of progress along with any necessary test results. Most home schooling parents choose to become a member of a local or statewide group of home schoolers, as there are many strict laws as to what you can and can not do while home schooling your child, regardless of what state you live in. These laws are very easy to break if you are unsure as to exactly what you are doing. Currently there are hardly any requirements as to whether or not a parent is suitable to educate their child. Forty-one states allow parents to teach their child without any specific teaching degrees. Parents usually get in contact with the local school district or the state Department of Education. At times, this can be a lengthy process to start home schooling your child, but many have found it well worth the effort.
Home schooling cuts out quite a bit of unnecessary time spent in public schools.
