Easter is a busy time for everyone and whilst mom is busy sorting out the Easter treats and preparing a delicious meal, Dad can often be overlooked when it becomes time to celebrate this very important time of the year.
For children, Easter usually has a long lead up into the holiday beginning a few weeks before school break and culminates in the excitement of a visit from the Easter Bunny and the giving of chocolate or decorated eggs.
Children are often mindful of the fact that they wish to add their own contribution and can be encouraged to make some hand-made gifts that will thrill their dad and make the day even more special.
Even the very young can join in with gift giving by allowing them the opportunity to make a cheerful Easter card that is bound to delight. Provide plenty of coloured card, child friendly scissors, glue, tissue paper, thin fabrics and lots of crayons, and you may be surprised what your budding artist will come up with.
Children who are a little stuck on ideas will benefit from a chick or egg template to draw round or a “here’s one I made earlier” card to copy. For those who are just that little bit too young to wield a crayon, then a tiny hand-print dipped in non toxic paint and pressed lightly on card will not only make a lovely Easter gift, but will also be a charming keepsake in years to come.
Children also love to cook and nothing will delight Dad more than some delicious cupcakes decorated with yellow icing and topped with a tiny chocolate egg. Or perhaps gingerbread shaped bunny? Add a bright ribbon around the neck and wrap in tissue with the inscription: Baked with love by ...
For the older children who wish to show their appreciation for all the chocolate giving over the past Easters, can give Dad his own Easter egg. To get a real bargain and to make sure that you get Dad as big or grand an egg that your money will stretch to, wait until the last possible minute. Stores and supermarkets will often drop their prices drastically a few days before Easter and it is often the larger and more expensive eggs that have been left on the shelf and then reduced in price.
If you are hard up and have little pocket money to spend then make up a voucher book using the Word facility on your computer. Use bright and cheerful templates to make up promissory notes that he can redeem at a later date.
