Poetry: For a friend

by Christine Sandra Sanchez

Created on: April 16, 2011

A friend doesn't go behind my back
To steal my man, then send him home
With her private number all over his phone...
Coyly flirting with him in front of my face
Then tell me he's worthless, a shameful disgrace

And a friend doesn't borrow my best clothes and say
I can't find the dress, do you have more I can wear?
And then gives it back with a hole or a tear.
Or stains my new sweater with dark Merlot wine
Doesn't bother to tell me, thinks that I wouldn't mind...

A friend doesn't call me to ask for a ride
Or borrow my car, then leave the tank dry
Or the dent on the side that she didn't see
And left it there as if to blame me
Then tells other friends that I was snobby...

Or snoop through my things when I'm not in the room
Helping herself to all my expensive perfume
Taking cash from my wallet and credit cards too
Then I get the bill for $500 shoes...
With a friend like this, who needs enemies?
