I've always liked to laugh and make people laugh, but I've never been much of a joke teller. I figure that if I can make someone laugh with just my impromptu humor, that's a higher calling than a practiced stale joke. I've had acquaintances who would stay up nights going through joke books, trying to top me at work the next day. Seldom did they make the grade.
The subject here is practical jokes. Actually, I've never really been into practical jokes because I don't like to hurt people and I don't enjoy being made a fool of myself . I suppose its the payback I'm afraid of.
When my oldest son was in middle school he came home and related this little story about what had happened to his least favorite teacher that day.It seems that this much despised teacher had a habit of coming in each day, writing the assignment on the board and sitting down at her desk. While her students got out their books and began their tasks, she would begin her daily ritual of slathering lotion on her hands from a lovely crystal bottle. Finally, after she had massage the lotion in, she would reach over and get a couple of tissues and wipe off any excess lotion.
What the teacher didn't know was that on this particular day, one of the boys had slipped in before class and emptied out the hand lotion and refilled the crystal bottle with Elmer's glue. When she started wiping the lotion off, the tissues were sticking to her fingers and pulling apart, making the biggest mess. My son said she had the strangest look on her face, like she just couldn't understand what was happening.
Finally someone began to giggle and eventually everyone in the class was laughing out loud, including the teacher. It could have ended badly for everyone, but because the teacher joined in the fun instead of going haywire, she changed in their eyes. She became one of their most loved and respected teachers.
Back in the dark ages when I was a senior in high school, I had a much loved Civics teacher. He was much loved by the students. He was young and nice looking. All the girls were in love with him and the boys wanted to be him.
Our classroom was on the top floor of the Science building. As you came up the stairs, the first room was the girls restroom. Next to that was our classroom. There were about ten rooms on either side of a long hallway, with the boys restroom at the other end.
This was election day and one of the extra election booths was left outside
