Crystal healing is a practice in which the practitioners utilize transparent and colorless crystals, such as amethyst or quartz which are believed to contain energy that improves the well being of the body and mind of an individual. The belief is that crystals can be charged with some energy, which in turn can be used to alter the internal energy of a person receiving treatment.
Crystal healing is used to enhance a wide variety of physical and mental disorders. For instance, amethyst is believed to be effective against acne; atacamite against some venereal diseases; agate against ulcers; and lapis lazuli against strokes. Crystals can also be useful against food additives, electromagnetic radiation, and contaminated air and water. Some believe crystals minimize the detrimental effects of tobacco, caffeine and alcohol. Some practitioners use crystals to minimize trauma before and after surgery.
The best results when using crystals are said to occur when both the patient and healer are holding crystals. The healer might hold a crystal in one hand while touching the body part in need of healing with the other. Crystals could also be worn as pendants around the body.
The appropriate stone for a given ailment is chosen by determining which crystal seems to harmonize with the frequencies of the patient´s body system. This could be designated by a warm or tingling feeling. Some practitioners employ only crystals while some others combine them with aura and chakra.
A crystal should be prepared before therapeutic use. One technique for such preparation is clearing in which the practitioner removes negative emotional energy by the use of an invocation. Another technique is cleansing, which converts negative energy to positive but maintains the crystal´s existing energy level.
This is usually done by immersing the crystal in dry salt or saline solution for a minimum of twenty four hours. Crystals can also be energized by exposing them to sunlight, moonlight, running water, magnets, pyramids, laser light, fire, or living animals like birds, fish, and also plants.
Some practitioners go as far as to place the crystals close to a mother who´s giving birth to a child, or to someone who´s dying. In some occasions crystals have been wrapped in a newborn´s placenta to be unwrapped seven years later and then be offered to the same child. Crystals that have been near volcanoes, meteorite fragments, earth quakes, or trees struck by lightning are considered highly valuable.
Some healers suggest that healing crystals can be programmed by the thoughts of a human being. This is usually done by situating the crystal near the forehead of the individual, then imagining the desired end results.
Although crystal healing has gained some popularity, it should not be viewed as a therapy for cases of serious illnesses. Medical professionals attribute the observed benefits of crystal healing to placebo effect and their skepticism stems from the lack of scientific evidence and the difference of opinions amongst the practitioners regarding the methodology of the therapy.
