Guide to The Lost Swords quest in Dragon Age II

The Last Swords quest in Dragon Age II is, despite the low-key nature of its execution, rather important for leveling your party. Do not, under any circumstances, miss this quest - nor should you do it incorrectly. There's much to lose if you take the wrong path through the quest.

The Lost Swords opens immediately after you reach Act III. Look through Hightown and you'll soon come across a Qunari who, sent by his people, is looking to recover the swords of his dead comrades. He asks that you bring any you find to him, and, if you press him, he'll offer monetary recompense for the swords you find.

Whether you ask or not at first doesn't matter. Whenever you bring a sword back to the Qunari, however, you must not ask for a reward, which you need only do the first time. Do the task for free and you'll get a substantially better reward at the end, not to mention 1,200 experience for every sword you find. This is an awesome way to level up quickly near the end of Dragon Age II - and if you ask for money you'll only get 100 per sword. (Plus 10 silver each, which is pathetic recompense for completing the task.)

The swords are found in the following locations:

1.) At Korval's Blades in the Hightown Bazaar, not far from where the Qunari is sitting, for 3 gold and 75 silver.

2.) At the De Launcet Mansion in Hightown, available during one of the main story quests. Take a high level Rogue with a Cunning of above 40 to disable the traps near the treasure chest containing the sword, as they're pretty brutal.

3.) The weapon shop in The Gallows for 3 gold and 75 silver.

4.) The Weaponsmithy in Lowtown for 3 gold.

5.) In rubble at the Foundry District of Lowtown, only found at night.

6.) In a crate in Anders' Clinic, deep in Darktown.

7.) In a heap of bones, located behind a smaller pillar, near the Harbormaster's niche of the western Warehouse District. You can only find it at night.

8.) In a locked chest at the far west end of the Warehouse District of the Docks. You'll again need a Rogue with a Cunning greater than 40.

9.) At the former Tal-Vashoth base on The Wounded Coast, not far from the cave entrance to the main part of their base.

10.) In a small loop, at a campsite, not far from the Tal-Vashoth base on The Wounded Coast.

Once you have all of the swords, return to the Qunari. Assuming you didn't ask for coin, he'll name you an honorable friend of the Qunari - or as friendly as they get - and give you a weapon of your own. The nature of the weapon varies from class to class, with Rogue Hawkes potentially receiving either a Dagger or a Bow, depending on your combat choices.
