The Mouse Trap
Three mice scampered into into my humble home,
Leaving traces wherever they roamed,
We teased and taunted them
With fresh tasty cheese,
Thanks! They’d respond,
And be gone with the breeze.
I watched him one night, a saucy liitle chap.
Then decided with a sigh to buy a mouse trap
I laid the first one and another behind,
Then shortly after, Snap! And what did I find?
The poor little devil had gone for the bait
But suffocation was his ugly fate.
The following night I sensed déjà vu,
As my deadly snare removed number two.
Then today my daughter came yelling,” hey dad!
There’s a brown rodent loose in my pad!”.
I grabbed the mouse catcher, setting the spring
and waited for him to disturb the thing.
Five minutes later, a familiar noise was heard.
I leapt from dinner ,without saying a word.
Opening the door with the kids looking on,
There was no mouse, and the trap was gone!
Rattle, bang crash! Under the bed,
The trap was running!, The mouse wasn’t dead!
Carefully reaching I picked up the quarry,
You menace, you’re....cute, now that’s a worry.
With compassion I carried the trap and it’s prize,
While he looked up at me with innocent eyes.
Outside I said “you’re one lucky mouse”.
Don’t you be returning to my little house.
Releasing the jaws, he dropped to the ground
I’m sure I won’t be seeing that mouse around!
