What to look for when buying a golf bag

When buying a golf bag it is not only important to take in to account your budget but also your level of golfing expertise and how much equipment will be carried in the bag.  There are many choices available for purchase and the best selection will be the one that best suits the individual's needs.  It is also important to consider the size of the golf bag in relation to the vehicle that it will be transported in, to and from the course.  Selecting a bag that is made to high quality standards, using top grade materials, will ensure a long lasting and essential piece of equipment; a better quality golf bag may actually last longer than some of the cheaper options, thus costing less in the long run.

What types of golf bags are there?

Golf bags come in many different shapes and sizes.  From carry bags to stand bags, cart bags, Sunday bags, tour bags, travel bags and individual accessory bags.  Golf bags also differ in size and functionality depending on the sex that will be using them; mens' golf bags are usually larger and longer (for longer club sizes) than the womens' bags.  It is crucial that an appropriate selection of golf bag is made that matches the needs of the golfer; purchasing a bag that is uncomfortable and unwieldy will only result in frustration and difficulties in mobility so choose wisely.  Focusing on the different styles of golf bags:

Carry bags

A relatively inexpensive option, the carry bag will be perfect for the beginner golfer and for those who don't have a large budget to outlay in equipment.  With a simple, slim-line shape, the carry bag is designed to be balanced across both shoulders of the golfer, thus ensuring even weight distribution and good posture.  Carry bags are a very light weight option and the range available is wide with many of the top golfing manufacturers offering them as part of their golfing range.

Stand bags

Really just an extension of a carry bag, the stand bag offers the extra option of being able to be stood upright with extendable legs.  Access to equipment between golf shots is made easier with the bag being in the optimum position for club selection.  The upright position of the bag also minimizes dirt and soiling affecting the outer covering, keeping the stand bag in clean condition.  When looking at stand bags it is important to check the stability and safety of the legs, avoid wobbly or unsteady choices.
