Tips for parenting twins

Parenting twins is no easy task, even for super mom. There are two to bathe, two to feed, two to burp, two to love, two to play with, two to smile at, and so on.

Tip 1: From the minute you arrive home get them on the same schedule. Feed them at the same time, let them nap at the same time, and so on. It may take awhile to get them on the same schedule, but it WILL be worth it. If you don't you are constantly, every minute, taking care of ones needs and then the others. My point, there will be no time for YOU! And you will need this.

Tip 2: Stay calm and patient. Easier said than done, I know, but it will make the twins calmer, thus making the whole situation calmer. If you find yourself at wits end, put the twins, in their crib, or somewhere safe, and take 5 minutes. Take deep breaths, and relax, even if it is only for five minutes.

Tip 3: Do your own thing. Raising twins isn't an exact science, so if Aunt Mildred thinks you should do it this way, and you don't agree, DO IT YOUR WAY. Aunt Mildred's not the one getting up every 1 1/2 hours to feed in the middle of the night.

Tip 4: Try to enjoy every minute of this experience, because it is unique, and time will fly by quickly. You'll be amazed at how quickly the twins grow up.

Tip 5: Find a GREAT qualified babysitter. If you only go out once a month, you will appreciate the time away, and really be a better mother for it. My advice on sitters, find one that's quailified in CPR, like a life guard, you'll have peace of mind if you feel they are quailified, and not just the teenager next door.

Tip 6: If someone offers help, TAKE IT. There are so many people out there, that really do want to help.

Tip 7: The most important advice, find a group like, Mothers of Twins, and join. You can trade stories, find great ideas, be around other mothers who are dealing with situations just like you, or almost. You'll probably make life long friends for yourself, and twin playmates for your twin.

Best wishes on your double bundles of joy.
