How to create a fairy garden

by Jane Myers

Created on: April 11, 2011

It takes a special sort of person to acknowledge that fairies do in fact exist.  It is even more admirable to look high and low to find a fairy to ask, ever so respectfully, "Can you help me Create a Fairy Garden?"  I began to try to seek out the fairies to ask for their help in carving out a space in time that would be suitable for a new fairy garden.  Within my imagination at a very young age I began to seek the fairies amidst the flowers in my grandmother's garden.  Others could not see them, but I could and I knew they were close by to help me to do the right things.  At first there was not even one fairy in my garden which I had tilled with love and commitment.  Because I believed, a little water began I sought reflections in the ponds that fairies so often frequent, simply for the pure pleasure of being amidst the flowers and trees, where birds sing their brilliant songs.  With my heart on my sleeve I suffered many disappointments and almost gave up and then suddenly a tiny fairy began to flitter about my head.  Her face was so pretty and her way was that of finding happiness in abundance.  So I began to envision a fairy garden that would become a safe haven.  My true motive was to one day to experience a transformation from a little girl to a fairy, sprinkling fairy dust throughout the air. The few tears I shed along the way were borne of my impatience with having been unable to find just one fairy to come into my fairy garden.

There are so many misconceptions about fairies.  They are thought to be just mythical beings and therefore not real.  That is understandable because fairies are so flighty and have the ability to appear and disappear at will.  Stillness and belief in fairies is the beginning of an almost sacred requirement.  To carve out a very quiet space in time where flowers begin to blossom.  The fairies came into the garden in a mist and soon began to cause rose buds to open while I hummed gentle melodies and bringing forth a sweet lightness, which fell upon the entire garden.  The more I tilled the soil and the more I loved my garden, more fairies began to appear, one by one to see this beautiful new Fairy Garden.

I began to see fairies peeking into the garden as they began to flutter like butterflies.  They perked up my garden that day amidst the towering sunflowers.  They became real.  The aroma from the first flower to bloom tenderly arrousing  more fairies to come forth and come in.  One by one, I  could see them peaking through the greenery in the garden.  Looking here and looking they began to search to find one very special flower.  Looking high and low and sometimes laughing with glee, they found the perfect flower to bless my heart and soul and to welcome me into the Land of the Fairies.  If you listen closely you just may hear the fluttering wings of humming birds and will somehow know that this is where you belonged all along.
