I walked swiftly past the table
stationed by the storefront door
when a gaggle of girls in green berets
came running toward me, blocked the way.
“Would you buy some cookies, please?”
In unison, they asked.
Don’t look them in the eye, I thought.
Just keep on walking…fast!
My waistline seemed to offer up,
a reminder that spoke the truth:
“You’ve tightened up,
by not giving in,
to that irksome, annoying sweet tooth!”
On the other hand, a voice sang out
from deep inside my mind,
“Those scrumptious cookies appear
but once a year…
If you want them, now’s the time!”
“We have lemon, we have mint and we have shortbread, too…”
Chimed a trio of diminutive Girl Scouts,
no taller than 4’2”.
By now my legs could carry me no faster,
nor further away…
So, I decided to buy a box of each type,
and save willpower for another day!

before we know it,
we are all grown-up.
Time to face our responsibilities head on,
The time is going fast,
Its relentless ticking never stops.
There's no way to make the moments last,
Or press pause before

enjoying it alters my character into an antagonist.
