Poetry: Life's road

Broken Bricks lay upon a path
Towns once proud knelt to nature’s wrath
Careless time she does not strife;
Causing pain, renewal, death and life.

The path is long though it’s not bare,
Broken bricks lay everywhere,
And half dead buildings yet to fail.
And those with eyes to see;
Be reminded the past was there.
And is still is alive though ruined bare.

And on this path we all must go;
The gates are thin and the mud is slow.
It is the path and the only way.
For some a wretched trail still beauty lay.

And ask why must we tread through this mud?
Reminded of those who fled, or flood, or flew away,
Left the living here to pay.

Some may say it’s cause we’re built from clay,
Just like the bricks one day will lay,
In the mud and dirt cast away
Unless collected on Judgment day.
Others say that’s just time’s way;
All good things end as night to day.
