artillery, and weapons which is a must see for all you war buffs. Also on the list of places to visit in the museum is the bridge of Sighs and the old prison. This is a truly spooky experience walking over the bridge and into the dank confines of the shoe box like prison. It is said that the Bridge got its name when prisoners would walk over the bridge and cast their last sight of freedom through the window over the lagoon to the island of San Giorgio and sigh. And today it is said that If you listen closely, you can still hear their ghosts sighing for freedom. Interestingly enough the museum has dedicated a section of the prison to art and poems which were carved into the stone walls by the prisoners themselves. To see everything that the museum has to offer, i would recommend half a day as you will want to see everything.

A trip to Venice would certainly not be complete until you've taken a Gondola ride through the beautiful city and through the famous Grand Canal. They can be rather expensive however it is definitely worth the money as you may even get serenaded. I recommend that you buy a bottle of wine and some nibblies before setting off on the 1/2 to 45 min trip through the canals. An interesting sidenote: You can see the water marks on the side of the buildings as to how much the water has receded and risen over the many years.

Dinning in Venice is truly an experience. We dined in a quaint little restaurant where the wine was free flowing and the food was certainly plentiful. The service was very friendly and the waiters were very understanding and patient due to the obvious language barrier.
After a delicious dinner, we strolled the streets of Venice at dusk, which is a truly magical experience. If you looked and listened hard enough you could picture people from the 17th century strolling through the cobble stones streets just as we were, laughing and talking.

There is a lot to see, do and experience in Venice, which because of time restrictions, we did not get to do and I would recommend a few days in the city so you can soak up everything that it is to offer. It is a city where you can truly loose yourself , where every one of your senses will be aroused by sights, sounds, smells and tastes. Venice is a place you will honestly fall in love with.
