Poetry for children: I want to be . . .

by Vivian Edwards

Created on: April 09, 2011

Let’s pretend

That when I talk, you listen
That when I cry, you just understand
That when I’m not being my best, that you “just love me anyway”

Let’s pretend

That you know that I am special
And often you tell me so

Let’s just pretend

That I make you smile
That I am at least one thought on your mind during the day

Come on let’s pretend

That you love me as much as I want you to just as much as I love you

Let’s pretend

That you tell me often, not only when I got into trouble

Now let’s pretend

That you want to help me through all the growing up stages of my life
And teach me “the right way”
That you don’t forget, I learn by watching

Let’s pretend

That my feelings are important to you
And you could feel in your heart that “it’s ok” and to help me understand

Let’s pretend this is how we are

Let’s pretend
