The modern computer is a virtual jukebox. Most new computers come with enough hard drive space to fit thousands of songs on. Organizing your music collection can be a tedious task, but here are some helpful ideas when tackling music file organization.
When starting such a big task, you need to find all of your music files on your computer and put them into one folder. You can use the "Search" function in Windows and search for your music. If you have a lot of random songs, it may be best to archive your music into musical genres. This would be the best method if you are a person that has a wide variety of taste in music. You can have a folder for punk, modern rock, country, etc.
If you are a person that has catalogued entire albums onto your computer, I would put each album in a folder of its own. You can put all your individual album folders into one folder and name it "Entire Albums." You can scan through your albums easy with Explorer.
If you have Windows Media Player 11, you can organize your music within this program as well. Windows Media Player 11, is not only a media player, you can rip your music, burn music onto a disc, or sync it up with your Ipod. The "library" function on Windows Media Player 11 is useful when archiving. It searches for the album covers and even finds the track number of each track. It is easy to find songs with its built-in search bar.
Those are the steps you need to follow when archiving your music. Patience might be needed if you have thousands of songs on your computer. If this is the case, do not try to tackle it all at once. Try to work on archiving a little bit at a time. If you add new music to your computer, get in a habit of putting it in the correct folder before playing.
