If western nations are built on the foundations of Christian doctrine then most certainly they should help. One has to believe that it would be hypocritical not to help. To call themselves ‘Christian’ and civilised nations, yet not help our fellow human beings who need our support, would be flying in the face of Christian principals, and flying in the face of God.

It really is as simple as that. Western nations can either turn a blind eye - using the excuse that North Korea is an ‘insular’ ‘shadowy’ nation, whose secrets are kept close to their chest. Or, western nations can go by the premise that we all have faults, all have secrets that we wish to keep from other nations. Yet, should this keep us from helping each other, when help is needed?

If we truly wish to live on the foundations of Christian principals - and this is the key word ‘Christian’ - then we must, as nations, show an example of those ‘principals’ in action. It is not only through words but through our deeds that we can really show just what it means to help our neighbour.

Natural disasters can occur anywhere in the world, and nature does not pre-judge - where such disasters shall occur. But, when they do happen, our Christian faith must kick into action. Even if no help is asked, we must offer. We must give those nations who suffer because of natural or indeed, man-made disasters - hope, that there is help out there.

Christian charity and love for our fellow human beings, no matter where they are from, should over-ride everything else. Society - today especially - has become too ‘insular’. This is because there is so little ‘trust’ among each other today. Where mistrust exists, ignorance misunderstanding and hatred occurs. These are the barriers that we must overcome in order to ‘love thy neighbour’ - as Jesus commanded.

We can do nothing without love, for love is the force that can move mountains. Western nations are some of the most ‘giving‘; in the world. We offer help when disasters strike, and provide manpower and the skills a country needs to get it functioning again. But we must and can do more. We must overcome the mistrust that we hold for certain nations, such as North Korea.

Yet, in stating that fact, nations like North Korea must also allow the help to arrive. They too must turn their hearts from mistrust and stubbornness to a nation that would welcome help from anywhere. North Korea is a proud country, but when the offer of help arrives, they must open their hearts to accept it.

By helping nations that we may look upon as ‘enemies’ or ‘potential’ enemies, we begin to build trust. We break down the barriers of mistrust and new friendships are formed. It really is a domino-effect because the more we give, the more we receive. There but for the Grace of God go ourselves, if we were ever struck by natural disasters.

Many nations would like to believe that the world would come together to help in some way. So, to sum up, even if no help is asked, it is our Christian duty, as ‘Christian’ nations, to offer that help. We can do nothing less, because anything less would mean we ride roughshod over our Christian faith, and what Christ taught us to do.
