As moonlight rests its laurels on the path,
Where once you stood with him in sweet embrace,
I feel that angst of pity and of wrath,
To see that look of love upon thy face.
All promises to me had been forgotten,
And anger built within my heart and head,
That something so worthwhile could turn so rotten,
You pledged your love but gave me this instead.
A dire reminder of my failed attempt,
To keep you unto me, for all my life,
Now hidden in a bottle, and unkempt,
With fantasies of someone else's wife.
The anger eats my flesh and tears my soul,
Which once you held, and broke apart from whole.
