Best low calorie foods for dinner

Healthy, delicious, low calorie choices for dinner exist. Cooking meals of this kind involves creativity and thinking outside the box in terms of what to use for seasonings and flavor. A few examples of low calorie meals include those that include meats, vegetables, and fruits.

Fish

One of the best additions to a low calorie meal involve fish, whether fresh or frozen. The key to the low calorie aspect of frozen fish is to buy the kind that does not have breading, but has the same cuts that you would buy fresh. Cooking the fish is the part that involves thinking outside the box. The most common way to cook fish seems to be with salt, pepper, and lemon; however, cooking fish in other flavors can make this low calorie meal taste wonderful. Try cooking salmon in a tablespoon of grape juice and a tablespoon  of white vinegar. Use powered spices, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or other complementary seasoning. If you are not sure if what your putting on will taste good, smell the spices together with the fish before cooking. Many healthy ways of cooking fish exist. If you fry your fish on the stove top range, use olive oil or coconut oil. Just a few drops will keep the fish from sticking to the pan. If you prefer broiling or baking you can marinate the fish in a combination of juice/wine, a vinegar and/or spices. It's important, of course to cook the fish thoroughly. To test this, stick a fork in the top and twist it. The fish should be flaky and juices opaque. Other meats are great for a low calorie meal.

Poultry

Chicken and Turkey are great, low calorie dinner options. The key to healthy, low calorie birds are the amount of fat these contain, which is why it's important to seek out skinless cuts. Like fish, it doesn't matter if you prefer to buy fresh or frozen, but you greatly decrease your caloric intake if there is not breading or skin. It is also important to note that turkey has a bit more fat and therefore more calories than chicken, so it might be a good idea to limit turkey and for the most part include chicken in a low calorie dinner. It is also important to know that white meat has less fat in it than dark meat, and therefore less calories. That isn't to say only stick with white meat, but to see if the majority of your meals consist of ingredients that maximize the use of the healthiest cuts of poultry.
