"No. We're in Illinois. We have to get to California."

So every traveling family may not be taking a pilgrimage to Disney Land all the way from Detroit, Michigan. However, many families experience the drab monotony of swirls of colors rushing past the car as they travel from point A to point B. Need Help? Of course. The following are a few games for any family to play while on the long, boring car ride.

The Alphabet Game

This is a great game to pass by hours. At all times are players attentive and extremely competitive. Basically, the players have to look outside the car for words that start with the letter "A." For example, let us say Mom sees a sign that says "Eat at Applebee's." She found a word that starts with the letter "A." She now has to start looking for words that start with the letter "B." Once she finds a "B," she has to look for a word that starts with "C," etc. Now, it is possible for one person to be on the letter "P" while another is on "M." This is what makes the game fun. Because the player looking for an "M" is three letters behind, he becomes very competitive, adding suspense to the game. Basically, the first player to the letter "Z" wins. Words inside the car are not allowed! The words must be outside and off of the car. This game can get challenging at times. This is because letters like "Q" and "Z" are uncommon. Be careful though because the letter must be at the very beginning of the word. SpeedyQ does not count because "Q" is within the word. With this, it may take hours for a "Quizznons" sign, for example, to pop out from the abyss. Players, do not be deterred, there are other games to play while playing this game.

The License Plate Game

So while everyone is looking for a "Quick Auto Repair" sign to be visible, how about the License Plate Game? This is fun because there are several ways to play this.

1) Play it just like the alphabet game. Players must look for license plates that start with A, then B, then C, etc. However, letters like "O" and "I" usually do not exist, but zeroes and ones exist. Replace numbers for letters that do not exist on license plates. If the family is playing the Alphabet game while playing the license plate game it can do one of two things: A) It could make playing both games confusing, because players may be confused on which letter they are on in which game. If this occurs, there are other ways to play the License Plate Game (read further).
