The healing power of the present moment

by Jennifer Vensel

Created on: April 06, 2011

It is all in the mind when it comes to pain. Usually we feel unhappy from something that has hurt us in the past, so if there was a way to not go to those places in the mind that we remember what hurt us, than it might be safe to say that we could first avoid the pain and then start working to heal from it. Forcing the mind to be in the present is a very good way to start to heal from what has hurt us in our day to day life.

Do whatever you have to do to be in the now. Jump up and down, read a book, or drink a glass of water. It is so important to create a life that keeps your mind present. When you are with other people if you’re focusing on them and what they are saying your conversations will be enriched. Also the connection between you and the other person is very healthy for your mind. There are places in your mind that will only be engaged when you are focusing on another person and what they are saying.

When you have gotten the hang of living in the now, the present, for this very moment than one of two things can happen. First other experiences will happen to you that may actually replace painful experiences from the past and help lead you to getting over them. The other thing is if you feel well enough and satisfied enough from living in the now day to day than you may be able to think about some of the experiences that were painful to you and get over them so to speak. You could maybe read information that will let you look at the painful experience in an objective way that will allow you to reason the pain away.

Healing is very possible from any experience. The earth turns every moment and everyday and does not stop. Thanks to that we can always have a new moment and if you are willing to live in that new moment you can grow and learn beyond any point you can imagine. Just practice a little everyday and it will become easier. You can put yourself in eye opening experiences so that you live in the moment. You can also exercise and focus your mind to be in the moment, whatever you do to be in the moment you’re on your way to healing.
