MLB: What it's like to be a Boston Red Sox fan

Being a Boston Red Sox fan is a special thing to me. I dont think I chose it, I think I was born into it, but feel lucky for it.

One part of being a Red Sox fan, of course, is dealing with Yankees fans. They like to gloat because they've had much success at our expense. The rivalry is exciting and fun, but it got tiresome hearing "1918" and "The Curse of The Babe." In 2004, that was erased, so their new line is it will be another 86 years until we win again.

At the risk of being bashed by Yankee fans even more, I'm just going to say that it doesn't bother me to not have the trophy at the end of the year. While the championship is great and glorious, the road to get their, or not, is why I watch. Because every opening day, we're all tied for first and I know my team is making its best effort at putting a quality product on the field.

I watch the game for Carl Yazstremski, Jim Rice, Dwight Evans, Roger Clemens, Pedro Martinez, Nomar Garciaparra, Manny Ramirez, Big Papi... and even poor Bill Buckner. I watch it because I love baseball and I love the Red Sox. If you were a 10 year old in 1986 in Boston when Roger Clemens struck out 20 Seattle Mariners and signed the first million dollar contract ever, you would be too.

This not being a piece that I would display for a portfolio, I still have no idea how I rank under a mis-punctuated, and unclear display of a Jeff Foxworthy rewrite. It is beyond my comprehension.
