Tips for tablet shopping

Like a page out of an episode of Star Trek, tablet-type personal computers are everywhere; quickly becoming the latest rage for both the young and old.  So what is it about these tiny contraptions that has us waiting in-line, camping out, even in the pouring rain? Most are eager and willing to do just about anything for bragging rights that comes along with owning one these bad-boys.  

The answer to me is never quite clear, but there definitely is no denying the compulsion to want one for myself.  This being said, you might already be considering what Tablet is best for you.

Should I buy an Apple iPad or maybe Android is the way to go—and, what about Windows; the overwhelming amount of choices are almost enough to make anyone’s head spin.  So, that’s why I am happy to share some valuable tips for tablet shopping:

 First and foremost you should consider what are you willing to spend; keeping in mind, the hardware, accessories, and if applicable—the associated cellular data-plan rates.  Once you have a well-plotted budget, you can start considering expectations, like what you want the device to be capable of doing.

CELLULAR DATA (3G) OR WIFI ONLY:

Do you have a home wireless network; do you plan on using your tablet on the road?  These are the first things you should consider before making any choices.  Some devices like the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy (to name a few) have either 3G (Cellular plan required) or Wifi only. 

If you like close to or within an area with an abundance of free-unlimited Wifi, getting 3G might not make any sense. However, if you are a business person, prone to travelling, and you require data no matter where you are; start checking the local carriers for the best plan, and go with a 3G enabled device.

OPERATING SYSTEM TYPE—COMPATIBILITY:

Tablets so far, come in five standard Operating systems; each one unique and to some degree functionally limiting.

Android (Google) BlackBerry Tablet (RIM) iOS (Apple) webOS (HP/Palm) Windows (Microsoft)

Adobe Flash

One of the hot-button items when it comes to choosing, comesoperating system, which will play an integral role in what the device is capable of doing.  For instance, if you want access to Facebook games or any other numerous Adobe Flash dependent web-based content—Apple(iPad), without the aid of an unsupported third-party application will not be supported.   Instead you might want to consider
