I know a great many people who surf the Internet, and quite a few of them complain about their experience. If I could give them two pieces of advice which would guarantee to improve their Internet browsing experience, I would tell them to switch to cable and lose Internet Explorer.
Cable Internet, and it's sibling, DSL, have been in existence for quite some time now. The speed and ease of use far outstrip your good old dial-up connection, and with any luck, in the next few years, cable Internet will become a bit more cost effective. For me, cost was the highest hurdle to overcome, but if cost isn't an issue, what are you waiting for? Both Cable and DSL provide "always on" connections, and the security of these connections has never been stronger. I think we can all recall the days when dial-up was our only option, and who remembers when we jumped all the way up to 56k? Wow! Now we are approaching 10 Mb downloads. Imagine that!
When it comes to browsers, Internet Explorer, look out; there's a new sheriff in town, and his name is Firefox. Seriously, Internet Explorer is just too cumbersome and intrusive to be an effective browser. Mozilla Firefox has I.E. beaten hands down, especially when it comes to simplicity and speed, two things most Internet surfers rely on. The extra features that come with I.E. may look cool, but like a rotten Pontiac, you can only go so far on looks. If you want quality, buy the Ford, and for the Internet, Firefox is the best free deal available.
