Surviving any pub crawl always involves planning, but surviving the St. Patrick's Day pub crawl requires a little more planning than most. You must consider a few extra factors like: size of the pub, length of the line at the door, and when the pub opens in the morning. Seriously though, let's take a look at this topic one step at a time:
1 ~ Find out who's coming with you.
This is important, as you must know how many people go in to the pub and how many come out when you leave. Fun ways to keep your group together would be to wear similar shirts, hats, have noise makers, things like that.
2 ~ Find a bunch of pubs in close proximity.
Be able to walk or take a short cab ride is ideal, as then you won't waste to much time traveling from pub to pub.
3 ~ Determine how long you're going to spend in each pub.
A pint? A pitcher? Until the band plays your favourite Irish Rovers song? A time limit is a good thing to have, so that you can be sure to hit all the pubs on your list.
4 ~ Alternate a pint of water with each pint of beer.
Now this might seem like a simple idea, and perhaps a little counter-productive, however rest assured that getting water into your system over the course of the pub crawl is a necessity. It will keep you from getting too dehydrated, which means less of a headache, and it keeps you from weaving too much down the street. Of course, you should also eat at regular intervals too, but that's another tip.
5 ~ Eat at regular intervals.
Try sampling some food in at least every other pub, or each one, if you're spending a long time in each pub. The food will make your day pass more pleasantly as you won't be sleeping on the bar, or spending the entire pub visit in the bathroom.
Lastly, and MOST importantly...
Ensure you have a safe way to get home.
Take a cab, take public transit, or simply walk home. Public transit may be your best option, especially if you've used up all your money during the pub crawl. If you can swing it, a cab is ideal, because then that's less walking for you to do, and you can get door-to-door service.
Hopefully these tips will help you have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day. I know I'll be employing all of these this year, as I celebrate with my friends and family. Cha Gheill!
