We Live in a time where the almighty dollar is what rules and governs the motives of the hearts of men. keeping up with the Jones' is the standard by which most people conduct their lives. However there are some Biblical principles that God has, for our living within our means. First of all; The Apostle Paul Stated in Phil.4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, In whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. This means what ever circumstance I find myself in I am happy because Jesus is my provider according to His name: And His name is Jehovah Jirah, and that means I AM a provider. Now to what Jesus said. In spite of all that you've heard in this age of tele-Evangelical, prosperity teaching ministries. You need only look to the Bible, the Word of God,and hear from the Lips of Jesus Himself to know what He considered profitable. In The book of John Chp.12 you will see that Mary the sister of the one Jesus had raised from the dead. Poured a very expensive oil on the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair. Some of His disciples were indignant at this act. But in response to their argument that her waste could have been beneficial to the poor, Jesus said in verse 8(" you will always have the poor with you.") This is just one statement from the mouth of God that proves every body is not going to get rich, no matter how great your faith. Secondly God made a promise of provision for all who would be His followers, so that they would have no need or want in there service to Him. Matthew 6:25-34 tells of the conditions we need to meet in order to obtain this providential care of God. Jesus describes the importance of not worrying for things such as food, shelter and clothing by having us consider the birds of the air and how our heavenly Father feeds them, they neither work, nor pay rent yet they have a place to live and food to eat, will not he provide for you? He says consider the grass of the fields and how beautiful it is, King Solomon was never dressed so fine. But yet the grass is here today and burned tomorrow and yet, I dress it, will I not do the same for you? Here is all you need to do "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you." Jesus takes care of His own. I don't have to be rich to please God nor do I have to be rich to be Happy! Matthew 19 speaks of an encounter Jesus had with a rich young ruler seeking eternal life. He said He had kept all the commandments of God, practically all his life. Now what must I do? (he asks) Jesus said ("sell all that you have give the proceeds to the poor, you will have treasure in heaven, and then come follow me.") Two things happen here. First; Jesus is not concerned with what you have on this side of heaven as it relates to your material possessions. Second; To be without down here in the service of the Lord, is gain for you in the Kingdom of Heaven. The choice is yours. Be rich now, for a limited time, or store up treasure for yourself in heaven that will last throughout eternity. Jesus wants you to be rich in your spirit, in your character, and in your service to God our Father!
