Choosing a blog platform

There are two solid choices: Blogger and Word Press. There are many options out there but here are the essential things you need to know in choosing between these two well known choices.

Eight Reasons to choose Blogger. See blogger.com
1. It's a free hosted blog.
2. Signing up is super quick and it now is integrated with a gmail account.
3. They offer a number of good templates, though limited, but with a little html tweaking you can custom design the look.

4. It is more user-friendly to publish than Word Press.
5. You can upload photos into your posting or link to an external source like Flickr.
6. Even without your own domain name, writing consistently and using networking sites like technorati, mybloglog, milliondollaravatar and others will help bring traffic.
7. You can purchase a domain and point it to your blogspot address.
8. Google will most likely extend the offerings within blogger and incorporate it with their other nifty services related to google apps where you can have email, calendar and a free website hosted under your domain. See www.google.com/a.

Eight Reasons to choose WordPress. See wordpress.com
1. It's is relatively easy to install on your own hosting solution. It's a 5 minute install. The first time you try it may take you thirty minutes. Just follow the instructions carefully.
2. You can now also host on wordpress.com for free.
3. There are many, many unique Word Press designs which make it a great candidate for those who want a more custom look. It's fairly easy to customize.
4. If you are wanting to monitize your site, having your own domain on a WordPress install is probably the best way to go in the long run.
5. The WordPress templates allow for more diverse options for layout of information.
6. WordPress allows for easily adding additional pages to the site beyond the blog so if you are wanting to develop a full website with portfolio and other features, it would be the way to go.
7. It is very easy to plug-in scripts for form submission and other PHP based code into a WordPress install.
8. You will be able to incrementally improve the site over time without the limitations imposed by blogger.
