How brands can make the most of Facebook's new pages

Facebook’s new pages platform has created features and enhanced others.  These new and enhanced features will allow businesses a new and better way to brand their business over a social network and reach new customers.  Additionally, businesses will be able to develop an Internet presence over a social network that is separate and distinct from profile pages of the individual business owners and staff.

-Interaction as the Page-

Your business can now interact as its own page.  In other words, if your business has a page, the page itself can create posts and comments that show up separately from your individual profile.  Essentially, the business page is its own entity and can comment and post on its own.  As a result, potential fans and customers can discover events and posts for the business only.

Businesses can use this feature to comment on customer pages.  In the comment, the business’s profile picture and business name will appear.  As such, anybody who reads the customer’s page (which will most likely be the customer’s friends and fans) will see your business name and emblem.

-No More Violations of Facebook’s Terms of Service-

Keeping a distinct business profile separate from your personal profile was very difficult to do.  As a result, many people would simply create two different and separate profiles.  Unfortunately, creating two profiles for one user is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Service.  As such, if Facebook discovered the fact that you had created two separate profiles, your accounts could be terminated.  This would be devastating to your business marketing efforts if your business profile suddenly disappeared.

The ability to maintain separate existences (one as an individual and one as a business) without having to create two profiles (and thus, violate Facebook’s Terms of Service) will allow businesses to market their products or services without fear of having their account cancelled.

-Posts from Fans-

Word of mouth advertising is one of the most powerful ways to market a business.  The difficulty with word of mouth advertising is that in order for it to happen, customers have to talk about your product or services.

While testimonials from customers could help cultivate word of mouth advertising for your business, people generally what to hear it “from the horse’s mouth,” as the saying goes.
