Reflections: The belief that good things happen

What people believe in with all their hearts, permeates their lives.  Having a faith is like having a very powerful secret friend you can always count on.  Meaning, it’s not really on the surface of everyday reality.  It can be, and when it is, it’s miraculous!  The memorable moments that cements a person’s belief system for the rest of their lives.  But normally, faith is an undertone or just around the corner of our understanding.

People don’t just flock to any old concoction of a belief system, they usually inherit what their parents and family and friend have believed in, their faiths.  Some have to find out everything for themselves and they become seekers, always curious and respectful of all religions, hopefully.

Many find their faiths during times of tragedy.  Life changing events like a death, or an illness and disease, or perhaps an incarceration.  All these things tend to bring people too their knees and that is where their faiths are found.  Some people think those kinds of faiths are frivolous but you have to put yourself in someone else shoes to really know what they perceived.

Some faiths make people fanatical, declaring “Holy Wars” against anyone who doesn’t see things the way they see them.  We all have witnessed the idiocy of those ideals, historically and in contemporary times.  Either on a grand scale like Adolph Hitler or on a cultic scale like the Manson family; faiths can get down right deadly, creepy!

Faith is an expectation of wishes to be granted to some, while to others it is the expression of being diligent and faithful to their beliefs.  Exercising your own faith freely is a beautiful part of being an American.  We can have faith in our parents and faith in our children.  We could even say that we are witches and warlocks these days and not be afraid of being burned at the stake!

Faith in a “higher power” or just plane old faith in a God is good even if the god is not real.  It is a positive thing to think like an optimist.  People have been healed by their faiths for a fact.  So for all of those who don’t think faith plays any role in everyday life.  Give it a try.  Don’t be negative.  Surrender your skeptical pessimisms; suspend your own beliefs in black in white reality and except the gray areas.

A teenage boy said he had a omen of a dream.  He said he spoke with one of his hero’s and asked him, “How can I become a famous musician?” and the bass player from the rock band ‘Faith No More’ told him, “We stuck to are own location and never stopped doing what we do.”  This was a profound experience for him . . . THE ANSWER . . . he places his faith in.  Should we crush his faith and tell him it’s a pipe-dream?

If we have faith everyday in life, then faiths role is to keep us living.  Keep us moving, keep us believing that we can reach beyond the stars.  Take the next step.  Keep us happy here at home, with the luxury of peace but evermore attendant in our times of sorrow, will always stand our faiths.
