Depending on where you go to college at, you may want to get your own apartment or move into a college dormitory. In regards, you would have to pay monthly rent on your apartment. Plus, you might have to get roommates to help with payments on the rent for the most part. If your tuition covers boarding, you may opt to move into a dormitory. But, you have little to no say on who gets put as your dormitory mates. There are only a few cases in which you can change dormitories. Unfortunately, you might have to deal with a few roommates in the dormitory that could be extremely noisy. That is very bad if you need your sleep.
On “Yahoo! Answers,” a person asks a question on the matter. She explains that she is a light sleeper and that her dormitory roommates are very noisy. She explains that her roommates do not go to bed until two or five-thirty in the morning. According to her, earplugs and napping do not work. For a total, she only gets about four to five hours of sleep.
One person that answers explains that you should try talking to your roommates first. You should try talking to them. Tell them that you need your sleep. If you do not get enough sleep, you will not be effective in doing the work. Thus, your grades will end up slipping.
In this case, noisy roommates would be grounds to get assigned a new dormitory. However, there might not be any spare dormitories available for the most part. Depending on where you go to school at, that might not be sufficient grounds for a transfer.
But, the person that got voted the “best” answer explains that listening to classical music helps. In this respect, have a CD or MP3 player. Due to the ease of accessibility of smart phones and other devices, you might be able to listen to MP3 files.
In short, sleep deprivation can happen as a result of noisy roommates. On MSN Health, sleep deprivation is considered to be a hidden hazard in college dormitories. According to the article, it explains that college students do not get enough sleep. One of the reasons is that college students have to pull all-nighters for term papers, late-night studying, and other projects.
When dealing with noisy roommates, you should avoid taking in caffeine a few hours before going to bed. You should avoid playing video games and other things that stimulate the brain and then the body's adrenaline. The article does say you should try using earplugs when dealing with noisy people in the dorms. But, back to Yahoo! Answers, earplugs might not be effective. This is due to the possibility of having roommates and other people in the dormitory that can be obnoxiously loud.
The website called “Sleep Better” adds other suggestions. One would be having a proper pillow and/or a proper mattress pad. That could help make you comfortable. Thus, you can sleep past the noisy people in the dorm.
These are the methods that can help a person to get enough sleep. It is considered that a person should get at least seven hours of sleep. If planning to stay in a dormitory, one can simply hope that there are no noisy roommates.
