Why Single Parents Should Work
As a single parent myself I have no choice but to work to support my son. As every parent wants the best for their child the only way I can do that is to work! State benefits in the UK would not leave money to help educate and support my sons growth mentally and physically.
There are many groups and organisations in our communities who can help single parents find all the resources they need to work from finding a job that works around your childcare, additional benefits you may be entitled to from financial, to help with transport and food. When you work just let your employer know about you being a single parent and they can and most likely will be very flexible towards your circumstances and may even help! At first it may be hard to adjust but like me and my son we are both in our routines and both cope well with our 12 hour days!
Working for me is important both mentally and physically as well and doing it for my son keeps me motivated . Working enables me to provide my son with the funds for everything he needs for his education from swimming lessons and trips to places around the area where we live to have fun learning about the world we live in. Also the opportunity for me to get out earn money, make a career and new friends at work makes me happier. This then rubs off on my son with many people saying he is such a happy child.
This makes me realise I did the best thing for my son by working, for him and for me. The effect in my son for me to work is to go into nursery full time, as I do not have the family near enough to care for him. I worried how this would effect him but after two years of learning, playing and socialising with the great staff and other children he has shown many skills for reading, writing and speech are way ahead for a child of his age! His social skills are also excellent for a child of his age and has built firm friendships with other children at his nursery. So these reasons are why single parents should work there are no excuses why others can not get out there and make a positive difference to your and your child's life.
