Belize is an interesting country with many cultures combined into a melting pot. The main languages are English and Creole. Belize is divided six districts Corozal, Orange Walk, Belize, Cayo, Stann Creek, and Toledo. Placencia is located in Stann Creek District. Upon entering the country of Belize you will pay a small fee to enter.

In order to get to Placencia it is best to fly. You will fly into Belize City and transfer to a small twelve seat plane. This plane will fly to the Dangriga airport and you will remain on the plane as they will continue on to land at the airport in Placencia. The airport in Placencia is very interesting as it is only 2200 feet long and surrounded by water. There is a road they must close anytime an airplane takes off or lands since the planes do not clear the road as they fly out over the water.

Placencia is a small fishing village with beautiful beaches and plenty of charm. Placencia is on the tip of a peninsula that runs along the Caribbean Sea. You'll find plenty of places to eat such as Wendy's where you can get a very nice meal for a decent price. Wendy's is one of the locals favorites and comes highly recommended and no it's not the chain restaurant. Another favorite restaurant of the local people is The Rum Fish. You can find meals for as little as $1.50 US dollars at other restaurants. The very best place to eat and most expensive is Turtle Inn's Mare Restaurant.

If you stay in town you can rent bikes and ride around or just walk. However, be careful if you are riding a bike. They boast the narrowest street in the world according to Guinness Book of World Records and if you are caught riding your bike on that street you will be fined $100. The locals and small school children will warn you if they see you riding on the street which appears to be a sidewalk.

Everyone in the country of Belize accepts U.S. currency or Belize currency. The exchange rate of money is two to one. For example if something is priced twenty dollars in Belize you will pay only ten U.S. dollars. However, be certain to ask them if the price is Belize dollars or U.S. dollars before paying or negotiating. Many vendors will negotiate lower prices and you'll want to be sure which currency you are negotiating before you make an offer.

There is much to do in this small town from shopping to deep sea fishing. You can snorkel, scuba dive, or go on excursions to places like Monkey River. Many places offer these services and you can negotiate the price
