Identity theft. You often think, "Who would want to be me?" Well, most people want to be themselves, but a few want to assume a portion of your ID to get something they want. For instance, the constantly drunk driver, having lost all chance at a driver's license, steals yours. He gets his picture on your license, then goes for another joy ride, not caring if he's caught this time, for he will then report your ID when in booking. When the time comes for the trial, you'll get your reminder to show up to defend yoruself from these charges. How will you do it?
Your doctor tells you that you need a pacemaker in your heart. So you check in with the hospital, and when they discover the problem they come to tell you. "Mr. Brown, we're sorry to have inconvenienced you. Although, your pacemaker does need a renewal of its batteries now, we cannot replace the entire pacemaker itself, because it is too cost-prohibitive."
Cost-prohibitive? "Replace my pacemaker? I've never had one. What's this about battery replacement? Replace where? Wait a minute!"
So you check your ID theft restoration service, and they do show a hospitaliazation and surgery performed right at five years ago. You had disputed that bill at the time, and all financial obligations were absolved for you then. But...the medical information remains. You have a pacemaker-or at least they think you do. It says so right there in your medical file, "Pacemaker installed successfully...date mm/dd/yyyy," (about) five years ago.
This is the reason you should have a legal plan alongside an ID theft plan. Because you now have a legal situation. You need a lawyer to go to court with you to make all concerned realize as soon as possible that you've never had a pacemaker, and that you need one now. While you are at it, in your medical file, make sure that no one has changed your blood type! That's a disaster no one wants on their hands!
So, driver's license, credit cards, social security, medical bureau, and personal are five different areas of Id theft possible. Some slick criminals get a hybrid Id of their own started when they steal your info from medical, my credit card, and our neighbor's Driver's License. This crime now is passing by the old fashioned "industry" of illegal street drugs in its financial impact. Why?
Because, if a dealer has a pound of coke in one hand, he needs to break that up into smaller "bags" nickel and dime, (that's $5 and $10 bags), but he can sell them only once. Then he buys another wholesale
