To conform or not to conform?

Theoretically, there is a specific duality present whenever the word conformity arises. Systematically, the most powerful, and influential minds that helped establish our Western Civilization today, as well as democracy, were not exactly viewed as politically correct individuals in their time. Socrates was forced to drink poison as a punishment because the leaders, or rulers of his time couldn't fully comprehend his intelligence, and as a result feared his methodical mind would influence many, and quite possible overthrow their authoritarian rule over the people. Likewise with Jesus Christ, who simply taught truths, and preached love and good news to the poor. This was an act of rebellion against the high priests and threatened their power over the people. Thus, Christ was crucified for teaching the word of God, by those who claimed to represent the highest authority of God in the religious sect of the days of old.

Certainly, other powerful minds used, or abused, their privileges in their elected or appointed positions whereas, they had the power to invoke rule by fear. Hitler exemplified this in his hay day, just as countries living under dictatorship or communistic rule suffer unto today. If the decision is; conform or die, and the act involves condoning or contributing to anything other then preserving mankind, and the future thereof, then for me personally, I would chose death.
Although times have changed, we still mustn't go unheard pertaining to our beliefs, our convictions, and our freedoms. In truth, in order to promote unity, and longevity, we as a people have to agree unanimously to determine which is beneficial to the all, and at times it means sacrificing a small portion of our integrity to establish a neutral ground abroad. That in could in all logic be attributed, or attested that conformity is essential in some cases.
Truly, I believe we live in a time whereas if enough people push for change, and the end result is of benefit to all, then I'm aboard and willing to grab an oar and row along. However, if the support requires an internal duality where one must conform by measure of fear, or in support of something they are truly convinced is nothing other than an attempt to oppress, or promote suffering, then I will fight to my death to rebuke such a cause. As the powerful voice of Patrick Henry once sounded "give me liberty, or give me death!"
Therefore, I suggest to each their own. Establish your own personal and spiritual beliefs, and keep a keen eye on what's beneficial to those to come, the generations of our youth, and the future thereof. If it means conforming to preserve the longevity of your fellow man, climb aboard. If it leaves you questioning your own morality, and principles, then speak up, speak out, and refuse to allow conformity to subject yourself, or others to undergo unnecessary suffering. Most of all, be yourself, follow your heart, and determine when to conform, as opposed to when not to conform, and maybe our kids will live long enough to see their grandchildren being born.
