With the Christian faith (and I am sure many of the world's religions that are established on this earth) no matter how good the tenants are, how they call us to be we are still human beings and we are still not perfect. Take Christianity for example, and I comment on this because I am a Christian and am familiar with the tenants of this faith. It calls us not to gossip, to love our enemies and to not lie, cheat, steal. However when one becomes a born again believer in Jesus Christ, even though we have a new life (spiritual life) we are still stuck in these fleshly bodies and are prone to the human condition of making mistakes.
Paul, who was at one time known as Saul, the man who was inspired by God to write much of the new testament outside of the gospels wrote about how he strives to do what is right, but does what is wrong, and strives to stray away from what is wrong and do right, but he still does what is wrong.
Hypocrisy comes in two forms, deliberate and non direct. A good example would be an imaginary of two people, both Christians, both preachers who preach the same things. One does not live by his words at all, and the other sometimes slip. The former you would find justifying his behavior, the other you would find in repentance. The former is a deliberate hypocrite, the latter is a non direct one.
