I must say, I find Winter a most depressing time of year. Yes, I know we have Chrsitmas, and the new year, but apart from that, I find there is little to look forward to. Everything dies, the weather grows colder and the nights grow longer. I find myself curling up trying desperately to keep warm, or venturing out into the cold only to arrive at my destination with numb fingers and raw red cheeks.
And yet, I realise there must be a point to winter. It is a time of preparation, a time when bulbs are not dead, but getting ready to shoot up the moment spring arrives. I also realise that having winter makes me appreciate the spring so much more. As the first daffodils appear, as the sun shines and the trees grow their leaves, I start to appreciate the world. Perhaps, then, the point of winter is to help us better enjoy the good times. Face it, if we had no winter, would we really appreciate the summer?
