There is absolutely no contest here. Amazon is the way to go when buying used OR new games. Naturally, it is wise to compare the prices of individual titles to make sure you are indeed getting the best deal possible. In some cases, Gamestop may have the better deal by a dollar or two on a used title. More often than not though, and I say that with complete honesty, Amazon sellers will prove cheaper and provide quality products. The only downfall with ordering off Amazon is the shipping costs. However, with the price of today's gas a gallon's worth costs just about as much as it does to ship out a video game (currently, at least). That being said, keep in mind the typical $3 shipping fee when comparing prices. It may make the difference between ordering off Amazon or walking/biking down to the nearest Gamestop.
Let us take a look at some real comparisons to back up my case as to why Amazon is truly the better place to buy used (and new) titles. I've found myself interested in Fable III as of late. The first place I'd look is Amazon and I find that I can buy Fable III used in Like New condition from a 100% positive seller for $26 + shipping. Not too bad. I can also buy it new from Amazon for $28 with free shipping. Even better. But Gamestop may have a great bargain, so I check out their site. To buy the game new I will be shelling out $59.99. Well... it is a popular title. Maybe used will be better. Gamestop's pre-owned rate for Fable III is $49.99. Let's see... do I want a brand new or like new Fable III for $28 or do I want to spend $50? Like I said, no contest. Amazon has trumped Gamestop by, rounded out, $20.
That is only one example, though. How about a newer and highly popular release, such as Black Ops, for the PS3. Gamestop offers the game pre-owned at $49.99. An Amazon seller with 93% positive feedback offers the game Like New for $36 with $4.54 shipping. Round it out to a solid $40 and Amazon once more comes out on top with $10 savings. Assuredly, I am picking games at random without any idea of what their prices will be from either Amazon or Gamestop.
Let's say we're looking to jump into the Assasssin's Creed games starting with the original for the PS3. $14.99 preowned at Gamestop. About $12 including the shipping costs in Very Good condition from an Amazon seller. Not a huge savings and it will take a few days to receive the game from Amazon whereas a trip to the local Gamestop will provide instant gratification.
In many cases Amazon
