Hotel rooms are going to be at a premium during the Royal wedding. Even at the best of times London is busy at this time of the year with schools on holiday and Easter but there can still be the odd bargain the traveller can find if they know where to go.
Obviously the main search would be through the internet at one of the web sites dealing with hotel accommodation. Searches such as laterooms.com or expedia is a good start who also give you excellent information about the hotel itself, how far it is from "the action" and recommendations from previous customers. Prices will no doubt increase during this time as the world and his wife from the UK itself will want to be there let alone the traveller from abroad. Instead of trying to arrange accommodation within the centre of London the traveller might well be advised to find hotel rooms on the outskirts as public transport is excellent, cheap and frequent into the centre of London. A map of London and its suburbs could be advantageous before trawling through the internet as the traveller can then see which areas are close to the centre ie within say 20 miles which is no great distance. Also in the suburbs street parties are being arranged on the day of the wedding which will be very interesting to the traveller in itself.
Another good idea would be to look through the local papers of areas even further afield from London. These local papers are often found on the internet. One local paper in the Cotswolds - Gloucestershire - are offering 4 day trips by coach from their area with hotel accommodation and even a day trip out when there. These can be much cheaper than just trying to book the hotel room and less stressful as the coach company will block book the hotel at a much cheaper price than the traveller. Therefore the traveller can stay in a hotel even 100 miles from London at a much cheaper cost, see that area too, and then join the coach tour to London. However, the coach tours book up very quickly so the sooner this is done the better.
The easiest way to organise this second option is to search the web looking for coach companies in an area the traveller might like to visit many miles from London and check their web page to see if they are running such tours. Once it has been found there are such tours and there are seats available it will then be possible to book accommodation in a local hotel. The coach companies normally then have pick up points for the trip within the town/village the traveller is staying. This can also be a very good way of interacting with the locals as the coach will no doubt be full of them.
Although there is not much time left until the big day as long as the traveller books in advance there will be endless possibilities. The trouble would be just arriving in London "on speck". By doing this the traveller may well find he/she has to pay premium rates for accommodation or having difficulty in finding accommodation at all.
