Some news commentators have criticized the recent court decision regarding the protest at a Marine’s funeral. The court ruled that the Constitutional right to free speech permits people to speak out denouncing homosexuality at a funeral. The objection is that the court ruled in 1949 criticizing Jews or blacks is not permitted free speech. The commentator implied that criticizing homosexuals should not be permitted for the same reason. The commentator is making a terrible, fundamental mistake. We Americans must understand this mistake and not let false ideas confusing criticism of homosexuality with criticism of Jews and blacks.

A Jew is a person who has made a choice to accept the moral code of Judaism. A black person is a person born that way. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all teach that homosexuality is a choice and very harmful to the society. Some of those few Americans who reject all religion say that homosexuality is not a choice, but similar to being born a black person. There is no scientific evidence either way.

The three major world religions teach that people must control their desires. A man must not covet someone else’s beautiful wife, but instead he must focus his desires and needs on his wife. A man must not have sex with his sister, an animal, or someone else’s wife. The Hebrew Bible says that these practices were common in ancient Egypt, and commands us to be “holy”, meaning to control ourselves.

The Bible is clear stating that such practices can destroy the entire society. This is contrary to many who say that what two men do in the bedroom has no effect on the society. In America, 2% of the people are atheists, and 4% agnostics. This means that 94% are people who accept religious ideals. This means that the overwhelming majority of Americans opposes the homosexual lifestyle and feels that homosexuality is dangerous to Western Civilization.

Getting back to the topic of discussion, the recent Court decision, we see a clear distinction between the current ruling on free speech and the 1949 decision. The member of the Kansas Westboro Baptist Church has the right to denounce military men who are homosexuals. Yes, they deserve honor and praise for their service in defending our country. However, they deserve harsh criticism for their choice of actions that weaken our country by moving America towards a collapse.

This is the belief of 94% of Americans. The 4% who disagree are prominent in the media, and talk as if all Americans see things their way. In general, the media represents minority viewpoints, presenting them as majority viewpoints. This is the case with our economy, for example.

My fundamental belief is that we human beings have the power to choose. We are not controlled by outside powers. Drug addicts and smokers choose this way but are not compelled to act that way. The only exception is people with brain diseases, a tiny minority of people, who indeed do not have free choice of actions. The homosexual man has the choice to have love and sex with a woman. We Americans have the right to criticize such a man for rejecting a woman and choosing another man.
