Deciding if affirmative action really is fair

In order to decide if something is fair or not I think it should work, or operate correctly. Their might as well be no affirmative action, people hire who they want to hire regardless. I've seen people that do the minimum to stay above the affirmative action laws. It usually involves a minority doing the worst job for minimum wage ,hating every second they are subjected to this, and having no choice but to work in order to support themselves or their families as well. They have no chance of advancement, only get raises when its mandatory for a raise and get disciplined for even the smallest infractions of company policy. My cousin was recently fired from a job that he has worked at for over 10 Yrs. People have come and gone from this Vet clinic, even the owners and veterinarian themselves, yet my cousin stayed, cleaning kennels, helping with labor and mean animals, unruly. He only got the raises that were deemed legal by the state. He always showed up on time and would even be on-call to come in at all different hours of the night and day. So a new vet assistant begins working there and demands to be called Maam at every turn. At least demands it from my cousin and no one else. My cousin being the only black man working there. Since my cousin will absolutely not call this woman by Ma'am, and addresses her the way everyone else addresses her in the clinic,(Dr. Her name) he gets fired by this lady for insubordination. Can you believe it? This petty lady decided that if my cousin wont call her ma'am that she will fire him. Being the Vets assistant she had the power to fire my cousin. Affirmative action had no place in this and should have, but this is just one occurrence of thousands that happen across the country. Lucky for my cousin, he isn't a loser or a quitter and now he works for animal control, a County Job that pays way more than the silly Vets assistant. My cousin could've used Affirmative action and filed law suits and such ,but what for, so some lady can have a bigger reason to hate black people cause obviously she doesn't care for anyone but herself. No instead my cousin got a better more challenging job and threw affirmative action out the window way back when he was a teenager.

Affirmative action, does it even exist, really? In this day and age......
