On the first day of school in September
I vividly can remember
Looking at all the new faces
As they wonder where their new place is.
We walk into the room ever so quietly
Not knowing how our first day will be
The attendance is taken and new textbooks are viewed
It's getting more comfortable even though it's all new.
I've described our units in Science and Social Studies
Explaining that projects and experiments would be plenty
Cursive writing, poetry, and division sounded good
They seemed to be excited, as all students should.
When the students arrived home and were asked to tell
How was your first day? They answered..."Swell".
