The future of universal health care in America

The future of universal health care in America may seem uncertain or doomed to fail according to pundits who see the economic downfall of the private health insurance industry as an undesirable consequence of implementing lower cost health care policies that will benefit the vast majority of the population without their interference or arbitrary decisions on who gets treatment and who does not.  



Most consumers are beginning to view private insurance as an intrusive and unwelcome dictator that gets in between a patient and his doctor.  In fact, when private insurances deny necessary rounds of chemotherapy and life saving surgeries based on cost, they have in fact; become the dreaded ‘death panels’ discussed so freely during political races.

As stated on The Daily Athenaeum “Some industries are too crucial to be entrusted to private corporations, and it's time we question if health insurance is one of them.”  The opinion stated by author Jarrod Barry may have been tossed aside as lunacy in decades past, but personal experiences have eroded the myth of ‘good companies’ giving way to the sad reality that corporations are vested in profits alone and human casualties are the expected collateral damage in the race to greater profits.

There has been an awakening of sorts across the United States that has created loud and, often times, excruciating and heart wrenching testimonials from families begging insurance companies to save their child, their wife, their husband by paying for the medical care these families were entitled to after paying their premiums.

The vast majority of the general public is eager to obtain health care that is affordable without having to end up in bankruptcy court due to the high cost of medical deductibles due to a chronic illness or recently diagnosed disease.  

Pre-existing conditions have been eliminated from the recent law and parents can keep their children on their policy until age 26.  In the current economy these changes make a positive difference in the lives of ordinary Americans.

Law suits from 26 States against the recent health care reform have made their way into the legal system under the guise to prevent enforcing a mandate to purchase health insurance.  But even States like Alaska, who have joined the law suit, are slowly accepting that implementation of affordable health care is not only in the best interest of its people, but a positive
