I drove by your house the other day
The home that was once my own
Nothing is left for me there anymore
No reason to enter
A past erased with time
I looked away and continued to drive
The only thing I have left
Is a memory of who you were
The man who raised me
The man who guided me
The man who died upon the floor
I can never enter that home again
It's not where I belong
You were strong and brave
No matter how bad each day became
You never gave up on life
I hope I possess that courage someday
When it's needed the most
There is pride behind your name
Honor behind your legacy
That is the way I choose to remember you
I shall pay tribute to your life
Without entering the home that's no longer mine
I will remember your face
Your smile
Your voice
To keep my own sanity through this
The only thing I can do
The only thing I can strive for
Is to admit that the only thing remaining of you
Is just a memory...
I miss you, Dad

Poetry: Just a memory
I hear your footsteps as you walk
You take a deep breath of the chill air
I can already see the smile on your lips
As you

Just A Memory
I lift your favorite sweater to my nose stuffed up from crying
The smell of your cologne is what I'm
At five, she runs through the garden picking daisies for Mom.
By seventeen, she dresses in satin and lace for her senior
Your jacket no longer hangs by the door.
Your laughter is not in the air.
I don't feel your warmth beside me,
Or your lips
You used to be everything,
you were a part of my everyday life.
A quick hello before work,
and an array of messages throughout
