Getting your kids to do their chores

In our house we use a point system. The jobs are given and each child knows their jobs and when they are expected to do it or have it done. On our fridge, we have a chart that has points equal to each job/chore. The points also have $$ value beside them. Do the job, earn the points, receive the cash. Don't do the job, lose the points and the $$ is deducted from earnings. No earnings this week, means the child begins next week in debt. We also use the "favour" method - I do jobs like cleaning etc. out of love, but I also do favours like drive me here, pick me up from there, etc.. If I do you favours and you get what you want, then you can return the favour with a job. Don't tidy your room and you may end up walking to school, instead of getting a lift. Understand? Help your child understand that everyone has needs and wants and not everything is on a platter for them - neither are you their slave. you will go the extra mile if they will. They don't have to know that mums and dads will always go the extra mile anyway! Good luck.
