A snowboard vacation typically does not represent what one may think of as a budget vacation. Close to everything costs money on snowboard resorts and costs thus quickly accumulate. A number of things can be done to cut costs, however. Planning the trip in advance, for example, can lead to considerable cuts in the total cost of the trip. Finding the right time, moreover, makes similar reductions in the total costs.
Here are some tips that may help.
1. Order the trip early
Businesses will always appreciate it when they know what they can expect in the distant future. They thus tend to reward customers who order trips early, by slicing prices considerably. The earlier you start planning, the better. If you can make a decision half a year or more ahead of the actual holiday, prices will be low. There are good websites like Kayak or Expedia where you can compare prices.
2. Find out what places are the “hottest”
The “hot” locations are expensive. If you want to save money, you’re simply not going there. To find cheaper prices, look instead for less known resorts, but remember also to check reviews or talk to your favorite “snowboard” friend for advices. And remember: If there are many mountains near where you live, chances are good you can find something interesting.
3. It’s all about timing…
When snowboard resorts are busy, they are also expensive. It could thus be a good idea to go on a snowboard vacation at a time when children are in schools. If you combine this with ordering the trip early, chances are good you will find prices that are very affordable.
4. Check prices at places you normally would not look at
Americans who snowboard may sometimes get better prices if they are willing to cross an ocean, or at least if they jump on a plane. Canada, Austria or Scandinavia offer ski resorts where prices are affordable and it might be a good idea to look at how much these cost.
5. Minimize all other costs
If you are flying with a plane, there are costs for bringing snowboards and other things. You may cut costs, however, by bringing one bag instead of two. It is a good idea to also do your utmost to not buy many things at the resort. Prices there are known to be high. Bring it with you instead. The total amount you can save by doing this can become considerable.
6. Check if you can get any discounts
Different places offer different discounts: military discounts, discounts for children or seniors, family discounts, online deal discounts or package discounts. Make sure to check whether you can get one of these.
