The golden rule
The golden rule about hair coloring at home is to always read the instructions on the hair colouring product carefully; before you start with the coloring process. Here are additional tips for hair coloring at home to help you achieve the best results.
Selection of hair color
It is very important that you choose the right hair colour. Especially the first time in your experiment to color at home, do not go for drastically lightening the hair. In case of covering gray hair I strongly recommend opting for a hair color which matches the original shade of your hair for best results. And if you simply want to change the shade of your hair then select a hair colour that is slightly different shade to to your original hair color.
Colour your hair when absolutely dry
Always apply hair colour to dry hair. Do not apply hair colour on wet hair as it will not absorb the color at all. Wash your hair a day in advance for best results.
Right timing for Shampoo
Don’t shampoo your hair the same day, you want to colour. Wait at least a day after shampooing, before coloring your hair. Do not shampoo the hair after rinsing out the colour. Simply rinse the hair thoroughly on the day of hair color. Always rinse the hair until the water runs completely clear while rinsing. And use cool to lukewarm water for rinsing the hair for best results.
Avoid hot water rinse as it takes off the hair colour from your hair immensely. Shampoo you hair only after 24 hours. Waiting at least 24 hours to shampoo, allows the colour to set in your hair more deeply and also helps to prevent the hair color from fading.
Protecting Hair color
Mostly all the hair colouring products which are made to use at home strip away the dirt from hair once rinsed, so there is absolutely no need to shampoo the hair immediately after colouring. If you shampoo the hair immediately after coloring, it will only diminish the shine and brilliance of the hair color.
To protect the vibrancy of your hair colour, always shampoo and condition your hair using cold water. If you use hot water, it strips the colour from your hair immensely. So to make you hair colour last long, avoid using very hot water but opt lukewarm or cold water instead. For better and long lasting results use a color-safe shampoo or a shampoo designed specifically for colored hair.
Now you know the tips for hair coloring at home so follow these tips religiously and you can easily achieve the salon hair coloring results at home. So go ahead and cheat on your colorist, I am sure you will be really pleased with yourself! From now on color your hair at home and save your precious time and money. Happy coloring!
