The best book clubs for children

The best way to help keep your child interested in reading is to have plenty of books on hand that are new and exciting. If your child is too young to read, then spending time reading with them will create lasting memories as well as promote an interest to read more books and become a better reader when they are old enough. Just like older children, younger children can get bored with the same ole book.

Many parents are busy these days and instead of having to find time to run off to the bookstore, consider enrolling in a children’s book club. There are several book clubs available with a variety of different options. Most book clubs for children will send you a monthly shipment. Others will require you to order a certain amount of books within a certain time frame to complete membership.

Children’s Book of the Month Club

Children’s Book of the Month Club (CBOM) has been around for decades. It offers a wide variety of books to choose from including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and more. The club is designed for infants and children up until age 12.

To sign up, all you have to do is go to the website and pick six books for $2.00. You will then have the option to add a seventh and eighth book for only $4.99 a piece. All of this does not include shipping. After placing your order and submitting payment, you will receive each month a catalog in which to choose books from. If you only initially order six books, you are obligated to buy four more books within twelve months. If you prefer to buy the seventh book then you will only need to buy three more books. If you decide to get all eight books initially, then you will only have to purchase two more books.

Scholastic Book Clubs

Many teachers already participate in the Scholastic Book Clubs. Parents have probably seen a sheet or two come home with amazingly low prices for popular and classic books. This is not only a great way to build your child’s home library but a great way to earn books for the classroom. Now Scholastic has made it easy to order online and allow the purchasing credit to go to a specific classroom. They have thousands of books available for as low as $1.00. Scholastic has nine book club categories to choose from depending on the age of your child. Another good feature is there isn’t a monthly shipment or bill. Fortunately, you can order books only as needed.
